Celtic La Tene Ring Pommel Knife - Blunt
The Celtic ring knife, also known as a ring pommel knife, is a distinctive blade originating from the Iron Age, particularly associated with the La Tène culture of the Celts. These knives are characterized by a forged iron blade with a ring-shaped pommel at the end of the tang. The ring likely served multiple purposes: facilitating quick retrieval from a sheath, allowing the knife to be hung from a belt or hook.
The La Tène archaeological site in Switzerland, which lends its name to the La Tène culture, has yielded a wealth of artifacts, including numerous weapons and tools. Among the approximately 2,500 items recovered are iron knives and other implements that reflect the technological and artistic advancements of the Celtic peoples during this period. The site’s proximity to Lake Neuchâtel suggests that some artifacts may have been deposited as offerings, consistent with Celtic ritual practices.
